Group Sex Just Got A Lot Easier For OkCupid Users

Standard

OkCupid will provide couples more options for seeking out romance together starting Friday.

The popular dating site and app will allow people who describe themselves, for example, as “seeing someone,” “married” or “in an open relationship” to link their profiles to their partner's and pursue romantic interests as a couple, The Atlantic reported. (It is unclear if the option allows for relationships between more than two people.)

Previously, couples using OkCupid to search for an additional mate together had to use a shared individual profile, which could create confusion among those considering their polyamorous propositions.

But not everyone is sold on the new feature.

One OkCupid user in a serious long-term relationship, who had previously sought out women using a joint profile with his girlfriend, said he was not ready to adopt the dating app’s new option just yet.

“I would not, in my case, start doing it, unless we had a conversation about it first,” said the user, who spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of the topic. “When we use the shared profile, by its very nature, we use it together and make joint decisions.”

People in relationships can already seek romantic partners on OkCupid individually while advertising they are in a relationship -- with or without their partner's knowledge.

OkCupid told the Atlantic that 24 percent of its users say they are “seriously interested” in group sex.

OkCupid had 12 million users as of September 2014. The site’s parent company, IAC, also owns the digital dating tools Match.com, Tinder and PlentyOfFish.
