7 Mobile Apps Busy Professionals Can Use Without Wi-Fi

Standard

Wait staff everywhere wish people could use every mobile app on the planet in offline mode. Service industry employees have become "Keepers of the Code," constantly dealing with people asking them for the code to their establishment's Wi-Fi service.

There are lots of games Android and iPhone users can play even if they don't have internet access; however, the mobile apps available for busy professionals that can be used offline are not as plentiful.

Here are 7 mobile apps I learned I can use even when my internet service isn't working.

#1. Evernote: This popular note-taking application syncs documents and files that users upload while using the application online. Once users are offline, they don't need the internet to access this data.

The free version of Evernote allows 60MB of uploads per month on the Evernote server, but this is only useful if users set all notes to "offline searching" if they want to be able to retrieve them after logging out. Premium subscribers are allowed up to 4GB of uploads each month.

Before leaving for your next business trip, load every file you need into your Evernote account. Leave your laptop at home because you'll only need your tablet.

#2. Currency Converter: When traveling internationally, you'll find yourself bargaining a lot with the locals - whether you want to or not. This app will come in handy in places where internet access is spotty, if it's available at all. Most of this app's reviews state it's very accurate and has a pretty extensive list of currencies and commissions.

#3. Maps.me: Have you ever found yourself absolutely annoyed by your GPS Lady - that's what I named mine - who suddenly decides to stop working while you're in the middle of rush hour traffic in downtown Chicago? Maps.me won't drive you nuts like that. Because this mobile app functions independent of Wi-Fi, you can travel without the inconvenience of malfunctioning navigation.

This map app has all countries and cities and navigation is fast and easy.

#4. Spotify: Sometimes, after a really long business trip, you just need to drown out all the airplane noise. Great music can do the trick. This mobile app is most useful for premium users who get access to Spotify's music library - millions of tracks available to those who upgrade. Users can sync their playlists and have that music available in offline mode. Before getting on the plane, use the airport's Wi-Fi to save exactly what you want to listen to. Drown out all the noise once you're inflight

#5. SMSmart: This is a great app that allows you to read recent tweets even if you don't have an internet connection. As long as you have an unlimited texting plan, you can use SMSmart to access Twitter, search, maps, news and stocks. Stay on top of your Twitter @mentions and keep the conversation going, even in offline mode.

#6. Hike: This popular instant messaging app launched a new feature that allows users to message each other offline. Using Hike Direct - very similar to Wi-Fi direct - users can send each other messages even if they don't have an internet connection. Users can even send files as large as 70 MB, offline, in less than 20 seconds. This makes Hike a very useful tool for teams to use in a pinch.

#7. Square Register: No more panicking when the internet isn't working at your storefront. Square users can still process payments using the Square Register. Users can now accept payments offline, as long as those payments are uploaded within 72 hours. Since any declined sales that weren't verified at the time of the sale are lost, users are able to set a limit on the value of each transaction processed offline.
