It's been 20 years, trainers.
Twenty years since our first battle. Twenty years since we argued over the best choice between Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle. Twenty years since we ripped off Kevin at the playground with that Mewtwo / Holo Charizard trade (ha, you blew it Kevin).
Today marks 20 years since the release of Pokemon Red & Blue in Japan. The only way to celebrate without remembering that you're 20 years older is to feed that nostalgia with a little of the new and a little of the old. Happy birthday, Pokemon!

If MewTwo in space and the wailing guitars of the Pokemon TV show's opening credits don't make you want to throw a Poke Ball at your dog, your Saturday mornings were lacking as a child.
How pumped were you to be wolfing down some Captain Crunch and rocking to "I wanna be the very best / like no one ever was / BAM BAM BAM"

You aren't a true trainer unless you're down with the original 151. You can snag these on the Nintendo 3DS eShop tonight for $9.99 a pop, and avoid the fuss of those cable links (which nobody seemed to have) by trading Pokemon over wifi.
If you're drawing a blank on which title is for you (Blue's the best, don't argue), Kotaku put together a list of which Pokemon are exclusive to each version.

Pokken Tournament, Bandai's cool new Tekken-inspired fighter, doesn't release worldwide until March 18 -- but there's still hope for you to play before anyone else. Certain GameStop locations across the country are hosting competitions today, and the winner of each local contest will be flown to New York City for a finals event.
If you can't get to GameStop, check out this video -- we joined Nintendo on Friday to show off Pokken Tournament's secret new character, Shadow Mewtwo. He's pretty aggressive.

Pokemon Sun and Moon were officially announced on Friday, meaning your kids will have a brand new title to beg you for and then utilize to ignore you completely. We don't know much about the games, though they'll be released later this year, and you'll be able to bring all those Pokemon you caught in Red, Yellow and Blue using the new app, Pokemon Bank.
Meanwhile, the company gave us an adorable trip down Pikachu lane with its announcement, and made us feel super old in the process.

Have you heard the theory that all Pokemon games take place in a post-war apocalypse, where children obsessed with combat roam around in a world without grown-ups?
Do you know about the creepy ghost girl in Pokemon X & Y who nobody can figure out?
Have you heard the myth about game developers using harmful frequencies in Lavender Town's theme music to drive Japanese children to commit suicide?
Those are just a few of the wacky and terrifying Pokemon theories out there -- if you need more, head over to Reddit.
